Yeti Mountain Home Lukla

A comfortable lodge a short walk from the Lukla airstrip, run by the Yeti Mountain Home group (now marketed as Mountain Lodges of Nepal). It suits a first or last night in Khumbu when flights are delayed and you want a warm room and a proper bathroom.

Lukla is where most Everest journeys begin and end, and it is also where weather holds people up. Flights to and from Lukla fly only in clear morning conditions, and a cloud bank in the Dudh Koshi gorge can ground every aircraft for a day or more. That is when a good room matters. Yeti Mountain Home Lukla is one of a small chain of lodges along the lower Khumbu trail, built for trekkers who want rooms with attached bathrooms and hot water rather than a shared teahouse dorm.

We use it for the night before the walk to Phakding and again on the way out, when a long hot shower after two weeks on the trail is worth a lot. The dining room serves Nepali and continental food; ask for dal bhat and you will rarely be disappointed. The lodge is a few minutes on foot from the terminal, which helps on early mornings when the first flight is called at short notice. Rates and room types change by season, so we confirm them when we book.

Why we use it

  • Rooms with attached bathrooms and hot water at the start of the trail
  • A few minutes on foot from the Lukla terminal for early flights
  • A calm base if weather delays your flight in or out

Questions

How far is Yeti Mountain Home Lukla from the airport?

It is a short walk, roughly five minutes, from the Lukla terminal, so your porter can carry bags across while you sign in at the park and municipality counters. On departure mornings that matters: flights out of Lukla leave in the first clear hours, and being close lets you move fast when the airline calls your group. We confirm the exact walking time when we send your final notes.

Is the Lukla lodge part of the same chain as the Namche one?

Yes. Yeti Mountain Home runs a small chain of lodges in the lower Khumbu, including Lukla, Phakding, Monjo and Namche, now also listed under the name Mountain Lodges of Nepal. Using the same group on several nights keeps standards consistent: attached bathrooms, warm bedding and a heated dining room. Their Thame lodge has been closed after the 2024 flood, so check current status before you travel.

What happens if my Lukla flight is cancelled?

You stay another night and try the next morning. Cancellations are common in cloud, especially in monsoon months and on spring afternoons. We build at least one spare day into every Everest itinerary for this reason, and we rebook the room at Lukla if the weather holds you. Helicopter seats can sometimes be arranged at extra cost when fixed-wing flights cannot operate.
