Everest Summit Lodge Pangboche
A small lodge just off the main Everest trail at Pangboche, about 3,985 m, with around ten rooms with attached bathrooms and a sunny terrace facing Ama Dablam. It is one of the more comfortable beds this high in the Imja valley.

Pangboche is one of the highest villages in Khumbu where Sherpa families live all year, and the Everest Summit Lodge sits right off the trail as it passes through. The lodge belongs to the Everest Summit Lodges group, which runs a handful of lodges along the route. Here the rooms, about ten of them, have attached bathrooms with hot showers, which is unusual at almost 4,000 m, and the dining room and terrace look across to Ama Dablam and up the valley towards Everest and Lhotse.
We use it two ways. Going up, it makes a gentle night between Tengboche and Dingboche for travellers who want to gain height slowly. Coming down from Everest Base Camp, it is a soft landing after nights in basic high lodges at Lobuche and Gorak Shep. Pangboche's old gompa, said to be the oldest in Khumbu, is a short climb above the upper village and worth the hour it takes.
Why we use it
- Rooms with attached bathrooms at almost 4,000 m
- Terrace views of Ama Dablam, Everest and Lhotse
- A short walk from Khumbu's oldest gompa in upper Pangboche
Questions
How high is Everest Summit Lodge Pangboche?
The lodge stands at about 3,985 m, the altitude usually given for Pangboche village, roughly 120 m above Tengboche. That makes it a sensible overnight between Tengboche and Dingboche, which is at about 4,410 m. Nights here are cold, often below minus 5 °C in November and December, so pack a warm sleeping layer even with good bedding.
Does the Pangboche lodge have private bathrooms?
Yes. Its rooms, around ten of them, have attached bathrooms with hot showers, which is rare at this height. Most teahouses above Namche share toilets and charge for a bucket of hot water. Facilities can change after a season, so we confirm them when we book. Water and power are limited, so short showers help everyone.
Is Pangboche a good place to stop on the way down from Base Camp?
Very good. After nights at Lobuche and Gorak Shep, above 4,900 m, dropping to Pangboche at about 3,985 m in one long day helps sleep, appetite and any lingering headache. The lodge's comfort comes as a relief, and the next day is an easy walk past Tengboche to Namche. Many of our Base Camp itineraries end their descent here.
