Yeti Mountain Home Namche

A lodge in Namche Bazaar at about 3,440 m with attached bathrooms and a warm dining room, run by the Yeti Mountain Home group. It is a good place to spend the two acclimatisation nights almost every Everest itinerary needs here.

Namche Bazaar is the one place on the Everest trail where almost everyone stops for two nights, because the body needs time to adjust at around 3,440 m before climbing higher. Two nights in a cold, noisy room can undo that rest, so in Namche we like a lodge with proper beds, attached bathrooms and a dining room that stays warm after sunset. Yeti Mountain Home Namche fits that brief. It sits on the slope of Namche's bowl, within walking distance of the Saturday market, the gompa and the steep path up to the park headquarters.

We use the spare day for the climb to Syangboche and the Hotel Everest View terrace, then return to sleep lower, which is how acclimatisation should work. Evenings are for the dining room, a plate of momo and a slow talk about the days ahead. Room rates in Namche rise sharply in October and April, the busiest months, so we book early. The group's lodge in Thame is closed after the 2024 flood; check current status before you travel.

Why we use it

  • Attached bathrooms and warm bedding for two acclimatisation nights
  • An easy walk to the Saturday market and Namche gompa
  • Part of a small chain, so standards match the Lukla lodge

Questions

Why do treks spend two nights in Namche Bazaar?

Because Namche, at about 3,440 m, is where altitude starts to bite. The standard advice is to add a rest day for every 1,000 m or so gained above 3,000 m, and to climb high by day and sleep low. Most itineraries walk up to Syangboche or Khumjung on the spare day and return to Namche to sleep. A warm room makes that rest day count.

Does Yeti Mountain Home Namche have heating?

Rooms have electric blankets and the dining room is heated with a closed stove, which is about as warm as Khumbu lodges get. Expect nights below freezing outside from November to March. Power comes from local hydro and can dip, so carry a warm sleeping layer anyway. We confirm current room facilities when we book because lodges upgrade between seasons.

Can I book Yeti Mountain Home Namche for just one night?

Yes, though we rarely recommend a single night in Namche going up, because the acclimatisation day matters more than almost anything else on the trek. On the way down one night is normal. In peak months, October and April, rooms sell out early, so we hold them as soon as your dates are fixed. Prices are higher than ordinary teahouses but include a private bathroom.
