Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa
From Syabrubesi (≈ 1,460 m) the Langtang trail climbs about 32 km up the Langtang Khola to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m). Most people take 3 days up, with nights at Lama Hotel and Langtang village, and 2 days down.
Day one follows the Langtang Khola through subtropical forest, past bamboo groves and langur monkeys, to Lama Hotel at about 2,470 m (6 to 7 hours). Day two climbs out of the forest past Ghora Tabela into open yak pasture to the rebuilt Langtang village at about 3,430 m (5 to 6 hours). Day three is a short walk of 3 hours past mani walls and chortens to Kyanjin Gompa. Coming down, most people reach Lama Hotel in one day and Syabrubesi the next.
Charter helicopters can land at Kyanjin Gompa, and some trekkers walk up and fly out to save two days. Flying in directly is not wise: you would arrive at 3,870 m without acclimatisation and risk altitude sickness. Prices are per aircraft and depend on fuel and demand. Use it for the return, for emergencies, or when the road below is closed.

Was the Langtang trail damaged in the August 2026 flood?
The flood of 26 August 2026 came down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli, not the Langtang Khola, and trekking operators reported in September that the trail above Syabrubesi was not directly damaged. Syabrubesi itself and the road to it were badly hit, and trekking was suspended for a period. Check current status before you travel; we will not run the trek until access is safe.
Do I need a guide for the Langtang Valley trek?
Under the rule in force since April 2023, foreign trekkers in Nepal's national parks and conservation areas must trek with a licensed guide, and the trail lies inside Langtang National Park. Enforcement has varied, so check current status before you travel. A local guide also knows which lodges have reopened and where the trail has shifted since 2015.
How hard is the walk to Kyanjin Gompa?
It is a moderate trek with no technical sections, but it is steady uphill for three days and ends at 3,870 m, where altitude sickness is possible.
