Ilam to Kanyam
Ilam bazaar to Kanyam is roughly 35 km along the Mechi Highway, about 1–1.5 hours by car or a little longer by local bus or jeep, through tea gardens, cardamom plots and the market town of Fikkal.
The easiest way, with stops wherever you like for tea gardens and views. Most travellers do Kanyam as a half-day trip from Ilam, or stop on the way down to Bhadrapur. Add Antu Danda for sunrise by staying a night near Kanyam or Fikkal.
Buses and shared jeeps between Ilam and the Terai run along the Mechi Highway and stop at Kanyam. They are cheap and frequent in the daytime but can be crowded, especially on holidays. Ask to be dropped at Kanyam tea garden.
