Bhadaure Tamagi is one of the villages around Panchase that runs homestays as a community programme, so that visitor income reaches several households rather than one lodge. You arrive in the afternoon to a garland or tika, a cup of tea and a simple room in a family house, with a shared bathroom outside. The house may be stone or mud brick, with a slate or tin roof, a kitchen with a wood fire and animals in a shed below.

Spend the late afternoon walking the village with a family member: terraced fields of millet and maize, buffalo sheds, the school and the water tap where everyone meets. Then join the kitchen. You may grind spices on a stone, stir dhido in a heavy pot, or pick sisnu nettles with tongs for soup. Dinner is eaten by the fire. Expect dal bhat, seasonal vegetables, pickles and perhaps millet roti, cooked over the fire and served generously.

Evenings are quiet and early. Sometimes neighbours drop by to sing or dance with guests; it is informal and not every night. Ask questions about the forest, schooling and family members working abroad. Breakfast is tea, eggs or roti, and the family will point you up the trail to the summit. Pay in cash at the end of your stay, and leave nothing behind but thanks. A small gift of fruit, notebooks or pencils for children is welcome but never expected.

Questions

What is a homestay in Panchase like?

You sleep in a family's house, usually in a simple room with a bed and blankets, and share a bathroom, often a squat toilet outside. Meals are home-cooked dal bhat, dhido and seasonal vegetables eaten with the family. Expect basic comfort and real hospitality. Bring a sleeping bag liner, headlamp and small gifts such as fruit or school supplies if you like.

How do I book a homestay in Bhadaure Tamagi?

Homestays are arranged through the village's community committee, usually by your guide or trekking agency in Pokhara, a day or two ahead. Arriving without notice may still work outside peak season, but booking ensures a room and a meal. Pay in cash in Nepali rupees.

Is a Panchase homestay suitable for children?

Yes for children who are happy with simple facilities. They usually love the animals, fields and kitchen, and village children are curious and friendly. Bring snacks, a headlamp and warm clothes for evenings. Toilets are basic and hot water limited. Discuss any food needs in advance so the family can prepare suitable meals.
