Shinta Mani Mustang

The first high-end resort in Mustang, opened in Jomsom in August 2023 with 29 suites. Designed by Nepali architect Prabal Thapa with interiors by Bill Bensley, it draws on the stone, timber and colours of Mustang, and is the comfortable base for Muktinath, Kagbeni and the Kali Gandaki villages.

Shinta Mani Mustang sits in Jomsom, the district town of Mustang, at about 2,700 m, with views across the Kali Gandaki towards Nilgiri. It opened in August 2023 as part of the Shinta Mani Hotels collection and was developed by Sherpa Hospitality Group. The architecture is by the Nepali architect Prabal Thapa and the interiors by Bill Bensley, and the design borrows from the region's stone walls, timber, textiles and the ochre and red of Mustang's gompas.

There are 29 suites, which keeps the place calm even in the busy months of October and May. For our guests it works as a base for several nights: day trips by jeep to Muktinath, Kagbeni and Marpha, walks to Thini and Dhumba Lake, and a soft landing after the flight from Pokhara or before heading north into Upper Mustang. It is the only hotel of this standard anywhere in the Kali Gandaki valley, so book well ahead for spring and autumn.

Questions

When did Shinta Mani Mustang open?

Shinta Mani Mustang opened in Jomsom in August 2023. It is part of the Shinta Mani Hotels collection and was developed by Sherpa Hospitality Group, with architecture by Prabal Thapa and interiors by Bill Bensley. It has 29 suites and is the first property of its kind in Mustang district.

How do I get to Shinta Mani Mustang?

Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom, about 20 minutes on an early-morning flight, and the hotel is a short drive from the airport. By road, Pokhara to Jomsom is about 160 km and 7–9 hours by jeep via Beni. Flights are often delayed by wind or cloud, so keep a spare day in your plan.

Is Shinta Mani Mustang a good base for Muktinath?

Yes. Muktinath is about 22 km from Jomsom, 1–1.5 hours by jeep, so you can visit the temple and return the same day. Sleeping lower in Jomsom, at about 2,700 m, is also kinder for acclimatisation than spending your first night at Muktinath's 3,700 m. Kagbeni and Marpha are each about 20–30 minutes away.
