Gokarna Forest Resort
A resort inside the Gokarna forest, a former royal hunting reserve on the north-eastern edge of Kathmandu, with an 18-hole golf course, spa and indoor pool. Deer and monkeys roam the grounds, and Boudhanath and Pashupatinath are about 15 to 20 minutes away by car.

Gokarna forest is one of the largest patches of old woodland left within the Kathmandu Valley, once the private hunting reserve of Nepal's kings. The resort sits inside it, near the Bagmati and the old temple town of Gokarneshwar, with rooms spread through the grounds in buildings styled with Nepali brick and wood. Spotted deer and monkeys wander between them.
The forest is the main reason to stay: birdsong in the morning, walks under tall trees and a quiet that is hard to find in the city. The resort has an 18-hole golf course laid out through the forest, a spa with an indoor pool, and several restaurants. It is a good base for the eastern sights, with Boudhanath and Pashupatinath about 15 to 20 minutes by car and the airport about 30 minutes.
