Walk to Kermi for the hot springs
Follow the Kailash trail for a day from Simikot down to the Humla Karnali and up to Kermi village, where natural hot springs make a welcome soak at the end of the walk.

The first stage of the old route to Hilsa drops from Simikot through pine forest and terraced fields to the Humla Karnali, then follows the river upstream. After five or six hours you reach Kermi, a village of stone houses, fields and Buddhist chortens on a terrace above the river.
A short walk from the village are natural hot springs, where you can soak in warm water with views of the valley walls. After a day on the trail at close to 3,000 m, it is a fine way to ease your legs, and it makes Kermi a popular first night for Hilsa and Limi treks.
Kermi lies on the restricted-area route, so you need the Humla permit and a licensed guide. Bring a swimsuit and towel, respect any separate times for men and women, and do not use soap in the pools. Return to Simikot the next day or continue towards Hilsa.

Questions
How far is Kermi from Simikot?
Kermi is about a day's walk from Simikot, often five to six hours, descending to the Humla Karnali and following it upstream. It is the usual first overnight stop on treks to Hilsa and the Limi valley.
Do I need a permit to walk to Kermi?
Yes. Kermi is on the route north of Simikot that falls under the Humla restricted area permit, which must be arranged through a licensed agency for a group of at least two, with a licensed guide. Check current status before you travel.
Are the Kermi hot springs developed?
They are simple natural pools rather than a resort, sometimes with basic walls or shelters. Facilities are minimal. Bring a towel and swimsuit, follow local customs on dress and timing, and keep the water clean.
